6th Grade Honor Band
The Honors 6th Grade Beginning Band is an after-school club designed for motivated 6th grade students who are ready to take their musical journey to the next level. This ensemble will offer an accelerated experience for beginning band students, providing them with additional playing time, focused instruction, and the chance to grow their skills at a faster pace.
Our time together will culminate in a final performance at the ISSMA Concert Band Contest, giving students a valuable opportunity to showcase their progress.
Students will be personally invited to join based on their interest, potential, and enthusiasm for music. Participation in the Honors Band will not only deepen musical understanding, but also foster teamwork, confidence, and a strong sense of accomplishment.
This club is perfect for students who are eager for more playing opportunities and who are ready to rise to new challenges in their musical development
January 8th - March 12th after school until 5pm. We will start meeting once a week and when we get closer to contest it will turn into twice a week.
Will meet in the band room

6th Grade Math Bowl
|
At Avon schools, math achievement, and specifically problem solving, have been at the forefront of our educational goals the past few years. We have shown success in the area of mathematics in NWEA and ISTEP, however, we would like to continue to build upon our students’ application of math skills with more rigor and open-ended problems. Math Bowl emphasize high-level thinking skills, and will give 6th-grade students an opportunity to go beyond what they are learning in the classroom. We also want to build excitement and a culture for excellence in mathematics at our school. Students in our club hopefully will see math in ways they have not seen before. Those students that are seeking a challenge in math, can find it through the Math Bowl. Research has found that upon completion of critical thinking games and activities, students demonstrate the ability to apply critical thinking theories in ways that are both fun and engaging. They also allow them to work collaboratively in authentic critical thinking challenges. Students use teamwork and concentration skills, which will be applied to not only the Math Bowl competition, but to future math curricula they may see. |

Anime Club
Meets Thursday afterschool
We will be talking about what Anime is, what the different types of Anime and teach others about it. We will be playing games and read Anime. My hope is to bring students together who don't play a sport or in theater. This gives them a safe place to talk about what they love, make new friends and teach others.

Futsal Soccer Club
Futsal soccer club is a great opportunity for students to meet and have fun with friends after school at no cost. This year will be interesting who will turn out for the fall sessions with the new soccer team forming at the middle school level. I imagine I will get a lot of 6th graders and students who don't make the team. I think this will give them a great opportunity to still be involved and play the sport they love. I will continue to make announcements at school and utilize Schoology and ParentSquare to bring in members for my club.
This soccer club meets on various dates throughout the school year in the Auxiliary Gym. Permission form must be signed to participate. These forms can be found in the main office or students can ask Ms. Gustin for a form.
Please join the Schoology group to stay informed. The access code is: CWJTD-NNNF4

National Junior Honor Society
Avon Middle School North established a chapter of the National Junior Honor Society in the Fall of 2019. Chapter membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments, but challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service.
Five main purposes have guided chapters of NJHS from the beginning: to create enthusiasm for scholarship; to stimulate a desire to render service; to promote leadership; to encourage responsible citizenship; and to develop character in the students of secondary schools. These purposes also translate into the criteria used for membership selection in each local chapter.
NJHS nominations at AMSN are based on a variety of factors, such as GPA, data, classroom performance, and multiple teachers recommending students based on the NJHS criteria of Scholarship, Service, Leadership, Citizenship, and Character. If a student is nominated, he/she must take the initiative to apply, obtain another adult recommendation, and commit to the NJHS criteria if selected.
Qualifications:
In order to qualify for membership in Avon Middle School North's Chapter of the National Honor Society, students must:
- Have and maintain a 3.8 GPA
- If a student has a 3.8 GPA or higher, they will be invited to apply for consideration of membership after the first semester of 7th grade. Letters of invitation and applications will be distributed to eligible students. Only those who receive applications may apply; however, if all of the criteria are met and a student does not receive an application
- Application must be fully completed, signed, and returned on time to be considered.
As members of NJHS, students must:
- Attend at least 50% of the meetings for the year
- Complete a minimum of 20 service hours throughout the school year. Hours must be documented and submitted on time.
- Pay dues in the amount of $15 that covers national membership and NJHS t-shirt
Volunteer Hours
Each member is required to submit a minimum of 10 service hours per semester for a total of 20 hours for the school year. The form to submit hours is linked in the NJHS Schoology course. Volunteer hours can be anything that is completed outside of the school day for someone else. Volunteer hours for work completed for family members will not be accepted. You may submit hours that are completed for other clubs as long as they are not completed during the regular school day.
Grades
Students must maintain a 3.5 GPA to remain in NJHS
Expectations
National Honor Society members are expected to uphold the pillars of the chapter: Scholarship, Leadership, Character, and Service. If a student does not fulfill any of the requirements stated above (minimum meeting attendance and volunteer hours), he/she may be removed from NJHS without begin placed on probation.

PAWS Club
We are excited to bring back a very popular club at AMSN called PAWS. PAWS stands for promoting animal wellness and safety. Our primary goal is to educate students about responsible pet ownership and the amazing resources in our community dedicated to the rescue, care, and control of animals. Some of the club activities include pet food drives, making toys & treats for shelters and rescues, promoting a love of animals and responsible pet ownership, and visits from a variety of animal rescues, shelters, and law enforcement to help educate students about the services provided and needs of the rescue community. Some meetings will include visits from some wonderful rescue animals! We will work to actively recruit students this year through Schoology, announcements, posters and sharing videos and pictures from last year.
