Spanish Students Raise Funds through Nonprofit Partnership

Spanish Students Raise Funds through Nonprofit Partnership

by Susi Clark, Spanish Teacher

The 8th grade Spanish 1 students at Avon Middle School North recently partnered with The Pulsera Project, a non-profit organization that works to empower artisans and educate students about life in Central America.

As part of the project, Señora Clark's students sold handmade bracelets, raising $1,200 this year. All proceeds were sent back to The Pulsera Project to directly support artisans and local communities in Central America. In addition to raising funds, the experience gave AMSN students an opportunity to learn about Central American culture, global citizenship, and the positive impact of fair-trade partnerships.

The Pulsera Project collaborates with artisans in Nicaragua and Guatemala, where they handcraft colorful bracelets, known as “pulseras,” along with woven purses. Through the sale of these items, The Pulsera Project helps provide fair wages, educational opportunities, and scholarships.
