Educational Trip Opportunity

Education, Adventure, and Culture in Ecuador!

A group of students, parents, and teachers from Avon schools had the opportunity to travel to Ecuador & the Galapagos Islands over spring break, along with Spanish teachers Susi Clark (AMS North) and Holly Barker (AMS South). The group of 40 traveled to Ecuador with EF Tours and spent 9 days touring the Andean capital of Quito, and the Galapagos islands. Highlights of the tour included visiting the equator and participating in different activities to feel the gravitational force at the equator, touring the old city and beautiful churches, visiting a local artisan market in Otavalo, hiking to a waterfall, and attending a traditional dance ceremony while on the mainland. Students and teachers also traveled to three different Galapagos Islands during their trip. They snorkeled, hiked, visited a tortoise breeding center and sanctuary, relaxed on the beach, and saw many animals up close including lots of sea lions, Galapagos penguins, blue footed boobies, sea turtles, tortoises, birds, and fishes.

Holly Barker and Susi Clark are veteran teachers who enjoy partnering with EF Tours to offer an educational student tour to Latin America annually. Enrollment is open with just a few spots left for their trip to Peru in June 2024, and sign-ups for the student tour to Costa Rica in March 2025 will open in May. If you’d like more information about these tours, please contact the Spanish teacher at your respective building.
